A rare Egyptian PreDynastic Breccia Macehead, Pre-Dynastic Period, ca. 3500 - 3200 BCE Medium - Copper and black on a creamThe spherical=shaped head pierced longitudinally for attachment to a wooden shaft, carved from a pink and cream breccia. Because of the fragile nature of the stone, breccia mace heads were thought to be ceremonial and not for use in warfare. The rarity of the stone would also indicate that it belonged to a person of the royal bloodline. A mace is a basic hand held weapon, half way between a club and a hammer.
