In 1997, my mother-in-law entered Brooklyn Community Estate where she resided until her death in 2006. She was always retreated with respect, compassion and love. In forwarding to the years 2014 and 2015, my parents were temporary residents for needed physical therapy. I was so pleasantly surprised to find many of the staff from 2006 were still at Brooklyn Community Estate, giving the same dedication to everyone. I feel this speaks volumes for a care facility to retain the same staff members for that amount of time.

In 2017, my father, entered Brooklyn Community Estates as a permanent resident. The care he received was always above and beyond anything we could have hoped for him to receive. Today, our mother and our sister are both permanent residents. As they entered the time of needing long term care, our family never considered any other facility.

I have always said the administration and staff at Brooklyn Community Estate was the best of the best. However, they have been elevated to an even higher respect from our family with the manner in which each one of them has handled the pandemic situation.

Again, the love, compassion, respect, and sacrifices they have made during this time is amazing.

For several years, my mom had suffered from forgetfulness and severe shaking of legs.  I soon found out from Iowa City that she had Parkinson’s disease.  It was very hard to watch her get to this point. I was never so glad that the hospital had suggested this place.  My mom knew so many from the area, so it was a good fit for her.

Mom always stated she enjoyed being there.  She really like the staff.  They were such a good comfort and support for me.  I was so surprised by all the activities she had to do there. She especially loved when they brought in music.  She would mouth the songs from old times which she knew most of them.  When her mind was good she could put puzzles together.  She loved to play bingo.

In my 12 years of work in hospice care, I had the humble privilege of spending a lot of time at Brooklyn Community Estate. From the very first time I walked through the door, I knew that BCE was a top notch facility. While I considered myself a guest in their home, it wasn’t long before I realized that I had become a part of a very special family. It was evident each time I cared for a hospice patient that these residents were their family. It was common for staff members from every department from nursing, laundry, kitchen, maintenance, administration, and activities, to readily minister to the needs of those dear residents making that final turn toward home. They would stop at nothing to see that the family as well as the resident was well taken care of. There was little turnover in staff which stands as testimony to the quality of this facility. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend BCE to anyone!
